An online petition urging ministers to curb immigration has gained more than 100,000 signatures in a week - making it eligible for a Commons debate.

Migrationwatch UK's e-petition calls for "all necessary steps" to stop the UK's population exceeding 70 million.

Nothing will happen to Canada, all those getting rejected by Brits will be welcomed in Canada, Canada is geographically bigger than Britain, population is only 33 million, so we can do with many people

That argument is flawed. Canada is large, but how many people can live in the North West Territories, the Yukon, or other Northern areas?

Most of Canada is uninhabitable, the actual livable area is a small thin line along the US border.  Most immigrants simply go to Southern Ontario ie Toronto. At one point or another Canada will have to stop taking in so many people.

To add to your point 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border.

Hi

To add to your point 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border.

Yep, that's true. If Canada just keeps blindly increasing its population, will that really increase our standard of living and quality of life? Do we want large mega cities with millions of people and crowded dense housing? I don't think most Canadians do, the beauty of Canada is the fact that it is a large land with a small population and abundant resources.

Already you can see that Canadian cities are struggling to meet infrastructure, health care, schooling and housing demands. The government wants to add immigrants but does not want to fund cities to provide proper roads, schools and other important infrastructure, I just think this is not fair to cities. Eventually it will turn our cities into ghettos and will decrease quality of life. Already our cities are suffering from crumbling roads, under funded highways, and inadequate public transit, not to mention lack of health care.

It is almost impossible to find a good family doctor and one suffers in agony waiting in emergency rooms to see a doctor. Over 100,000 parents and grandparents  are approved to come in plus thousands of refugees  come in every year?? Is that really very smart?

I just think only those immigrants who have a job offer (which no Canadian or PR can do) should come, so they can start working and paying taxes. Also spouses should be allowed, since no one will come without their husband or wife, but that's it.

I mean no offense to any poster here, just stating what I feel. I know its not nice, but it's my opinion.

Where do you get your stats?  In 2010 the number of parents and grandparents approved was 7,071.  And a total of 12,055 refugees were approved.  Even adding those numbers together is a pretty far cry from 100,000.  The media makes it "sound" like there are hundreds of thousands in those categories let into Canada every year but it's not true and NEVER has been.  Aside from that, there is now a moratorium on parents/grandparents sponsorship applications so that program is closed as of November 4, 2011.

Well, there is always people leaving Canada.  Think about emigration!

BTW, if government is struggling to provide meet demands, why doesn't Canada encourage more privately-owned transit and health care services especially in major cities?

Even adding those numbers together is a pretty far cry from 100,000.

That's why the poster put questions marks after his statement.

You are wrong.  In another thread, the poster told us that he filed for wife inland on Aug 23 2011, while his wife had a visitor visa in Canada.  He's Canadian citizen.

Yes I am a Canadian.

All I am saying is the government does not properly fund cities for schools, roads, health etc..the government just takes in lots of immigrants and lets the cities deal with it. If you want to add 250,000 people a year, you should have the proper funding in place otherwise quality of life will go down for everyone in Canada! Canada can't sustain that level of growth and still maintain our quality of life, we'd go into serious debt if we tried.

Where is the funding for proper highways, hospitals, and schools? It is simply not there, the government can't afford it.

Just look at the UK, it is a complete overcrowded dump, do we want that in Canada? Please don't say Canada is so large, it is large in terms of surface area, but the actual habitable area is small.

I just don't think it makes sense for Canada to take in so many immigrants, unless an immigrant has some exceptional quality there is no point. Instead of looking to foreign people, we should invest in Canadian students to work in our higher fields, I will be taking these views to Mr Kenny as he is my MP.

Yes, sorry about that. However still there are thousands of parents/grandparents who have been approved and will be let into the country! I think they shouldn't let in anymore from today, regardless if they have been approved. Those people will come here and qualify for free healthcare and OAS using up a system which is already so broken.

It is not fair for taxpayers like me who pay thousands and thousands into Canadian taxes, but when we need good health care or any other treatment, it is not there and we have to go to the U.S and pay thousands more. I just think the average Canadian tax payer is getting screwed over and the government does not give a crap. They just want to bring in immigrants to cater to the ethnic communities so they can get more votes!

Reading this forum has shown me how much people take advantage of the system, I am so shocked. You can clearly see from the posts that many visitors and students simply want to come to Canada and never leave.
