Hello!

I heard some good thigs about this forum, so I hope somebody could help me!, I have a question regarding a work permit.
First of all, let me tell you about myself, I'm from Mexico, I lived in the US 20 years, I entered illegally, and a few years later, I tried to legalize my status, I had work permits for about 5 years, at first when I didn't have a work permit I worked at restaurants as a pizza cook and prep, delivery driver, and cashier, then when I got my first work permit, I went to a School of Trucking and got my CDL, class "A", I worked as truck driver for the last 6 years I was in the US, and  I coudln't get a green card, 'cause I didn't qualify, according to the Judge, so I was given voluntary departure, but I made a big mistake,... Yes!, I stayed, I didn't leave when I was supposed to, and 2 years later I was arrested by Police Ice at home, and I was deported to Mexico, the same day I was arrested. That was last February 09. So, now I'm willing to get a work visa to Canada, so my question is this, Will the deportation from the US affect my eligibility to get a work visa? Does anyone Know? I will appreciate it so much, if somebody can answer my question.

Thank you.

Yes, it will.  CIC will consider that you remained illegally in the US, so they will think that you will do the same in Canada at the end of authorized work permit.

If you were to qualify to apply for your immigration directly, it might not be a problem since it's impossible to overstay a PR.  However, truck driver is not considered a skilled occupation in Canada so I am not sure what immigration class you could qualify for.  You can look at your options at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Thank you PMM, I think it's considered a semi-skilled occupation in Alberta, under NOC 7411 C. What province are you in?

Yes, 7411 is a C classed occupation so there are no means to qualify for immigration directly.  If you could get a temporary work permit, you would qualify to apply for your immigration under the Alberta semi skilled program after 6 months of work but the problem is getting this temporary work permit.  If you had a job offer for a A, B or 0 classed occupation, you could use that to apply for your immigration directly under the Alberta PNP.
