do they usually make a decision the day they open it? or does it take longer?

Waaaay longer....

However, from my immigration notes and time stamps, I believe when my file eventually got to the officer who makes the decision, the approval took about 5 minutes.
The problem is that the file needs a lot of work before the decision can be made.
