So the general consensus is that I can (and probably should) send it to the address in Canada as I am in Canada, even though my application was outland?

yes.  Fort Erie is for people who are being processed by Buffalo (and maybe for some other countries too?), but are currently in Canada.  Fort Erie is just across the border from Buffalo (I looked it up on a map), so I imagine they make a run over there a few times a week and pick up the mail from there.  adetia9 from the Buffalo thread sent off her passport to Fort Erie also.

Here is the link with the instructions that I received:  http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/imm/submit_soumettre.aspx

Do a search on this forum for "Fort Erie" and you will find lots of people talking about sending their passports there from the Buffalo thread.  That will make you feel better that it's the right thing to do, knowing that several others have experience doing this already.

I never got these instructions, I only go the PPR letter, and that says NOTHING about putting your passport in ANOTHER envelope with your file number on it.  I'm really glad that I checked here before I mail it off!!

BTW. What is my file number?? is that the Client ID number I used to check my status on the website?

On a related note, are post offices open on Saturdays?

The file number should be listed on any communication you've received from Buffalo it starts with a Bxxxxxxxxx.

Here the other links with instructions from my PPR.

some post offices are open on saturday, but it wouldn't go out until monday (or I might be wrong, but I know there is no mail delivery on saturday).

strange that your letter didn't include that info.  I just got an email saying they were requesting my passport and there were links at the bottom and that was one of them.

Your file number is the immigration file number that Buffalo gave you when you got your AOR.  I also got stickers with a bar code on them that have the number and that is what I put on the envelope too.  If you don't have the stickers, you can write your file number.  Some people don't seem to get stickers with their AOR.  but they should have definitely given you a filed number.  If nothing else, it should be on your PPR letter.  It was on my email PPR in the subject line and also within the email.

So the client ID number is different as that is a number given by Mississauga for the sponsor application.  You can also check your status with the Buffalo immigration file number when you use the applicant's info rather than the sponsor's info.

Did your letter say you should also write down your eye color and height?  That was something in one of the email links but not in the email letter they sent, so I ended up forgetting to do that and emailed the info instead.  Hope it's not a problem!

IIIII mailed it off today.  I took that visitor's record out of my passport.  I hope it doesn't take too long to get back.
