I would recommend applying straight away, the longer you wait the longer it will take!

Also, if you are interested in applying for Permanent Resident status within the BC Province (the most beautiful place on earth!) then contact http://www.russcanada.com/english.php for assistance.  I went through them and they were incredible as far as information, guidance, compassion, and understanding.

Also, if you are going to be out of the country for a while anyway you may as well use that time to soak up the waiting period.  It can take some time depending on where you are from and which office you apply through.  There is an online guide to wait times:  http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/02a-skilled-fed.html

Good luck and congratulations on your marriage :)

Hi hi,
I too have a similar situation. i am a singaporean and my boyfrd is a canadian living in BC, FSJ. When we do get married and after we submit my PR application, am i able to continue to stay in singapore waiting for my PR status to be out first? Cos i heard that it takes as long as 8 mths for it to be approved and during that period, the wife can't work in canada...i will go nuts if i dun work for 8 months so i thought it be good if i can still stay & work in spore while waiting for my PR to be approved.

also, the link that u had provided for estimated processing time is for individuals applying for PR on their own, right? If i apply for PR as a legal wife of a canadian, surely i do not have to wait for as long as 40 months right?

Thanks a lot.. i really would appreciate any help at all. i love my canadian man a lot but i am 28 yrs old and i have a great life & job myself in spore...truth be told, if it takes 3 years for us to be living together in Canada, i would rather we save the pain & break up now....sighhhhh...

The average processing time for spousal applications already processed in Singapore is between 5 & 16 months, plus 52 days processing in Missisauga, see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/05-fc-spouses.html#asia\

PS, you usually get better information from the offical site, www.cic.gc.ca rather than some guy who spams news groups.
