Am I the only person who thinks sending a passport regular mail is a stupid idea. The fact that it's not even registered mail makes me wonder how the Canadian consulate can just send such personal items at such low security....People still passports out there ....and do they not worry or even consider that.

As far as I know my passport is somewhere out there....where....only God knows.

Robertbola, how did you send your passport to NY then?  Did you send it signed-for / registered / secure mail?  If yes, then why didn't you arrange for your passport to be sent BACK this way?  If you had included in your package TO the NY consulate a self-addressed pre-paid registered / signed-for envelope (which you CAN do) then the consulate would have sent it back to you this way. I don't understand your complaint about the consulate when in fact you could have arranged for it to be sent back through 'higher security' mail??
