I wanted to start this thread, to hear from each individual what motivates him or her to go to Canada.

Basically, I would like to ask each one of you two questions:

1. WHY are you going to Canada?
2. WHY didn't (or don't you) STAY (or go BACK) to your country of Birth?

Post your replies here. Try to be honest and precise in your answers.

Out of the most ulterior motives, of course  Grin
j/k

If you don't want to answer please don't spam the thread.

I personally think it's important to know:

1) For immigrants - to have CONSCIOUS recognition of real causes, motives and goals of their immigration. As opposed to unconsciously following impulses.

2) For receiving country - to have better insight and understanding of WHY people leave their homes, loved ones , roots and decide to make a journey (many across the globe) to come to Canada.

3) I personally desire to destroy some pervasive and malicious stereotypes along the way.

All the best!

Spot on.

It wouldn't be a bad Idea if you lead by example canada0801, that way others can join in. You are also migrating to Canada right?

I already did express my individual opinion on it (if you search back, there was a thread which was started by someone who claimed to have settled in Canada and was advising others to refrain from coming to Canada. There, i explained that we all have our own individual reasons and also shared some of my own).

P.S. Again, I respectfully ask you not to spam this thread by making evasive statements and asking for my motivations in starting this thread and etc.  You DON'T HAVE TO answer anyone or any post on this forum. If you are not willing to answer the OP questions please leave no comments.

Your understanding is greatly appreciated!

I assure you that I will at one point.
But I do not want to influence the answers of others by crystallizing and clarifying my own.
I don't want the "Aha! Canada0801 sounds good! Perhaps, I am motivated by similar feelings!" effect.

I want everyone to think and come up with THEIR individual purpose , causes, reasons, hopes and goals that motivate Him or Her to move to Canada.

Thanks for this, but it would have required you fewer lines to tell us what your stance on the issue is.

It might not appear as such to you, but some might see it as hypocritical when you state that your motive is to "destroy" stereotypes and there you are holding back on your own perspectives on the issue you seek to explore. The best way to generate discussion is to state your own premise. I am sorry, it might not be your intention, but your current stance would suggest you are driving at a predetermined premise and are looking for contributions to reinforce your premise. I hope I am wrong, but the best way to prove me or everyone that have asked for your own opinion wrong is to state here what your own stance on the issue is. Then the discussions would follow.

I got you. In that case, you might want to rephrase your poser to make it less personal, just thinking, possibly bring up an article or a story that reinforce the underlining philosophy you want contributors to iron out. That way people will see the objectivity on things. I have no doubt you mean well, but as  a fellow potential migrant, asking people as u did without stating your position might come across as cynical, just saying.

Anyway, good luck mate and all the best in our search for a better future.

Of course i could do that but then, inevitably, i would be setting the tone for others to follow. Latter is not my intention, as mentioned earlier.

Thank you for your good wishes, 9j.
I second you in wishing all of us the best of luck in our search for a better future.
