I'll go to Calgary in March, just wondering if it's possible to drive from Connecticut to Calgary. Because buying a car in US is $10,000 cheaper than in Calgary? Who has experience driving to Alberta? Thank you.

Hi Winter876, I did not know that its cheaper to buy a car here than in Alberta. Hmm, thanks for the info. Anyway, I just recvd my nomination but I always decided that if I got thru then I would drive all the way.

I drove from Seattle to Montreal this march. Unless you have a relatively new car i suggest you to get rid of your car and buy a new one in Canada. I believe cars are cheaper (atleast in montreal...i'd imagine its the same in Alberta) in canada than in US unless you plan on getting a brand new one.

If you need any info on importing the car from USA to canada or the process involving registering a car in Canada I'd be happy to provide you with the same.

Bottomline...doable...but i would not have done it had I known the facts.

1 More thing...get winter tires mounted on your car before starting your journey to alberta if you do decide to drive...and do not forget to get your driving abstract and letters from insurance companies reflecting your driving history.

Seattle to Montreal, wow, dats a long long drive. But the advantage is that one can really explore the region driving and a person should love driving. I have a 2006 toyota corolla so I guess it should be able to take the strain. Thanks a ton for sharing the info regarding getting the letters from the insurance companies, I was unaware of that. Guess I haven't really looked into it in detail since I just recvd my Alberta nomination yesterday so have a lot of time till I get the PR. But yes, one thing is for sure, I will drive but will only undertake the journey in summer. Winter driving is out for me.

Ooops, I was under the impression that one could move after nomination. Anyway, I still plan to drive, guess its going to be a beautiful drive. Lets see where I get a job after PR, hopefully toronto, that'll be closer but I heard Alberta is one real beautiful place and I love the mountains.

Hi Guys,
Need some advice.
Is it absolutely OK to move to some other state other than Alberta, if for any reason, you are not able to find something suitable for yourself in Alberta, or if the best opportunity is somewhere else.
Do you know of any restriction relating to this kind of movement after PR.
