Hi

I am a US green card and am visiting my daughter in Canada. I want to stay in with her permanently so I was wondering what would be the best way to do.

1) Apply for permanent residency (not sure what category i would fall into)

2) My daughter apples family sponsorship for me. Do i need to leave Canada?

Thanks for advice

She can apply to sponsor you, and yes, you would have to leave Canada, there is no category for sponsorship of parents in Canada.  Currently, sponsorship of parents is taking 42 months for stage 1 assessment.

You can try to immigrate independently as a skilled worker if you have the required qualifications for one of the classes of workers.

There are also Provincial Nomination Programmes, but I am not knowledgeable about those, perhaps someone else can offer some information on that area.

A US green card holder has a limitation to his/her stay in Canada as a visitor. The sponsoring and PR processing will go up to 5 years or more under Family Class/Parents. You have to go back to US and visit again as per the existing rules.

How long you are permitted to stay each time you visit depends on the Immigration Officer at the point of entry.  If they get the impression that you are "living" here and not just visiting, because they see you staying for long periods of time and only returning to the US for short periods before coming back to Canada, you can be denied entry.
