my question is more for senior members: is there a legislation in place about this? will the applications be in an indefinite stand-by?  Shocked

let's say there's war (like in Libya now - it could happen in other places), or civil war or some natural disaster and an embassy will close....will they transfer the immigration applications to another place? (i did see that the Ivory Coast embassy transfered everything to Senegal but not sure if this is the regular way)...Cairo embassy was closed for a few weeks but others could get closed for far longer without knowing for how long... Undecided

also, would they transfer all the files or just some? (the urgent cases, who knows)

was there any previous experience about this? is there a manual to read?

Hi,

All the applications will be transferred to any visa office within or around that region. CIC will publish in their website about such transfer accordingly. Few months before Egypt embassy moved the files to Damascus.

aaaaah thanks wilson i didn't follow that in detail, i just knew that Egypt's embassy was closed  Undecided

that's good news and it gives me hope; maybe we could try to send the file to Damascus after all, no matter what will happen  Cry we'll see how we'll get to the interview if asked

best of luck, hope ur long wait will not be that long Smiley

My husband (he was a kid back then) and his parents had applied from Saudi Arabia and the office was Kuwait at tht time I think. But then they were all caught up in the Gulf War in 1992. So though their processing was delayed, the visa office Riyadh gave them their visas even though it doesnt deal with immigrant visas.

Last year when there was the horrible earthquake in Haiti, they started doing visa application processesing in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as before any visa applications for DR was done through Haiti. After the earthquake all of the visa files were transferred over to the Santo Domingo embassy. The visa processing is still being done there actually, but there are now rumours it will be moving back to Haiti... Hopefully not though.

AGREE, SAME HAPPENED TO THE EMBASSY IN HAITI, THEY MOVED IT TO THE DOMINICAN REP. AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE IN 2010.
