What if I have the Academic Test of IELTS? IS there any problem? Should it only be the General Test?

Hi

What if I have the Academic Test of IELTS? IS there any problem? Should it only be the General Test?

Then you will need to take the General as CIC requests.

This might be true, but I fail to understand the logic. Academic test is considered tougher than General?

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with PMM. Academic IELTS is superior than GT, so it should be acceptable (infect it will be).

The immigration requirement states GENERAL ILETS not Academic ILETS, though it may be harder, who cares and no one cares if its harder and u have to follow what is required by the immigration office! Not what u THINK as easier or harder! FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS closely!

While we all agree the Academic IELTS is harder than the General, you must go by what is required AT THE TIME YOU APPLY.  I think the Academic used to be accepted, but I am pretty sure you will find that changed this year.  It is another one of those really stupid stipulations in a system that is trying to attract post graduates who would have to provide Academic IELTS results in order to be accepted at many educational institutions, so why on earth should they have to resit and repay for an exam that is still valid???  There is no reason why CIC couldn't have a different scale for G and A IELTS.   My nickel (2 cents + HST)

Hi,

For Canadian Immigration only GENERAL MODULE is accepted. See the below link for the confirmation. Academic is harder but acadmic is for studies and for immigration purpose GENERAL is required.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/language-testing.asp

Hope this Helps!

Cheers

Irrespective of what is tougher or easier and what is or was accepted in the past , The current CIC rule is that you need to sit the General test and hence you are better off following those instructions.

There is not much difference in both IELTS tests anyway.

The difference between Academic and General reading and writing test is that in Academic you receive a graph and the task is to describe it in 150 words. In General Training you receive a description of a real-life situation and the task is to write a letter about that situation.

Listening, speaking is the same..

I submitted my application last september and sent my academic IELTS because I was rushing to make the cap, because at that time we sitll dont know if the cap has been reached or not. Its 2 months now and my DD was encashed, I know somebody who submitted their papers with academic IELTS in august. Actually, before we mailed our papers we had a lengthy discussion with my consultant coz we already knew at that time that they require GT module, but we were rushing hence the decision to submit it was done. If you have time, take the GT because that is what they require, but if none then its your risk to take. I myself dont really know what will happen, now we are just relying on prayers.

Good luck to us.

We can hope that the officer who will be evaluating our paper would have an open mind that the reason they require IELTS to be done is to have a sytematized evaluation of an applicants ability to communicate in english from an accredited third party. Before, they themselves evaluate an applicant by asking them written proof and interview, which is one of the causes of delay. This is just my own opinion.

I can guarantee you that CIO has accepted Academic IELTS test. I also sent A test with my app last month, and my BD is encashed on November,3.
IMO if u are not rushing to reach  the cap such as nurse, pharmacist. Please take the GT!!. coz nobody can assure u for  the next stage at VO they will evalute or not.

Sending Ielts-Academic is a big gamble, and a good example for this is my friend, who take ielts and pass, then submitted his requirements after june 26,2010 but he was adviced to take G.T,he is documents was rejected.

My other friend who has Academic Ielts was accepted, but he submitted his documents last february 2010.
