Hi:
Can someone give me an idea as to what does background check include?  I'm puzzled why this thing takes so long?

Please advise.

1.  Security Background is performed by CSIS and looks into your associations and organizations and laises with Gov't to determine if there is anything in background which would make you inadmissible.  Time is how quickly foreign gov'ts respond to request for immigration.
2.  Background is contacting employers, schools etc. if there are any doubts about the bona fides of the information you provided.

Thanks a bunch for your responses, PMM!  You have been extremely helpful to the people (on this forum) who are kinda lost with a multitude of CIC procedures and protocols (and also their quirks, I must say).

Please provide your opinion on this one as well and oblige:

Would there be any security checks done for an applicant if there were no associations/affiliations with any organizations/military/Gov't. etc?

Would they completely bypass this step in the above scenario?

What's your opinion on this?

Thanks again,

Nope, they do a security check on everyone over 18 (16 for some nationalities)

Hi,
Can one let me know at what stage a securuty/backgrond check normally takes place; before 'selection decision' or after? In case of some discrepancies or misunderstandings; does consulate inform you about it somehow?
Thanks for your replies!

Security/Background are done after a successful IA.  If there are discrepancies in security, there is either a security interview or a refusal.  If the background checks find anomolies then there is either an interview or refusal usually.

hello,

I got the interview waiver together with the medical forms about a week ago. They also required me the RPRF reciepts and Police clearances. Does this mean they still haven't started the background check? Who does the background check anyways, the local embassy or the embassy where the information comes from the same country? Do they start the background check after or before the security check?

1.  Background check, employers and schools is done by CIC, and it was started when the IA was successful.  If the information (employer, school) is the in another CHC jurisdiction , the local CHC gets the background.  Don't forget that employers and schools are not always contacted, usually in cases where there is a lot of fraud.
2.  Security check is handed over to CSIS to do, after successful IA.

Hey there PMM.  What is a succesful IA? Is it when you get an interview waiver?  If you are called for an interview when you get IA, is that an unsuccesful IA so the background check will start after the interview?

Thanks a lot!

1.  Yes, an interview waiver is a successful IA
2.  Yes, the background wouldn't start till after a sucessful interview.
