I am currently unemployed. I am planning to apply for permanent residency through a sponsorship with my partner who is Canadian by the end of the year. Will claiming welfare here in Ireland effect my application in any way?

Thanks
James

I don't believe so.

If it was your sponsor who was on welfare, it would be different since she'll be legaly obligated to provide for you. But for you, no, I don't think it makes a difference.

I just sent in my application, I'm the sponsored partner too and I don't even remember any income questions anywhere in the forms.

Thanks for the reply.

I had a look through the forms and couldn't see anything either. I thought the CIC officer might be able to contact the Irish revenue people to check. Think I'm looking way too into it tho.

Good luck with the application.
