Hi, Can someone advise me what to do. I sponsor my daughter to Canada 5yrs ago. She decide to live with her boy friend an his parent, last week i receive a letter stated NOTICE OF DEFAULT TO SPONSOR, my daughter is on welfare, I should pay $774 per month. I have a home were she use to live.Her room is always available for her. I talk with her she says it's until she gets a job. i'm not in Default of my Sponsor, can someone tell me what to do, She his 21 yrs old going to university

I believe your only real option is to convince your daughter to stop accepting welfare. If she accepts welfare - then it's up to you to pay it back since you signed the support agreement. It doesn't matter that you have a room available to her. If she's on welfare, you are in default of your support agreement.

I think you should talk to welfare people and ask them why she is getting welfare money when she could be living with you for free.  It is possible that they say that she can decide where she lives and you might still have to pay.  Maybe you can negotiate with your daughter that she goes of welfare and you will pay her directly.  Under the sponsorship agreement, you are responsible for her until she is 25 or for 10 years after she got her PR, whichever happens sooner.

Another example of how government wastes our tax dollars.  Why should anyone be able to get welfare simply because they "want it"?  It would  take very little effort for the welfare department to find out that the daughter has a room available at her mother's place. Surely that should  disqualify her from receiving welfare -- which is supposed to be only for the truly needy.

I agree welfare is for those that need it.
While a minor should be able to be returned to the parent, the daughter is an adult.

If your daughter continues to claim welfare, you will eventually have to pay the total bill, at that time you should ask for proof that you are no longer in default.
Welfare will inform CIC that benefits are no longer being claimed, and you will no no longer be in default of your agreement. This process can take a month or two.
Do not make the payment yet, it will complicate the issue.

Contact the office that she is claiming welfare at and talk to them. Make it clear that she is your daughter, you do have a room for her and you are able to meet the terms of your agreement.

As scylia mentioned, talk to your daughter and explain that what she is doing (I hope unintentionally) is causing a problem.
