Hi Everone, I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me?
We sent in our application package on April 20, 2011 and I received sponsorship approval on May 9, 2011 (Not too shabby).

I keep checking the status on the website and I use the client ID on the top of my letter, but when i do it says there is no information available.

Am I using the right number or am I wrong in thinking that packages sent by mail to Cairo is some wierd code for 'there's a guy swimming across the Atlantic with a waterproof backpack on" and it's just a sign that it's not actually received yet?

I miss him terribly and the distance is really messing with our heads. We "sleep" beside each other every night on skype and I have such a crazy desolate feeling in my heart that it will be so long before I see him again. He has nothing abnormal in his file, he's a lawyer, a homeowner, no criminal background, good family, University educated. Does anyone have any idea what kind of timeline we're looking at?? I'm not getting any younger and we are eager to start our family. I want to go back because I haven't seen him since last October. We agreed not to do this because each time we met, the parting is too difficult. I've been twice in 2010, but none this year. It's killing me.

Well, one can alwas hope, The letter I received from the CIC stated that our applicaton had been forwarded to the Canadian embassy in Cairo. I just dont' see why it is taking so long. Patience is not my best virtue.....lol. Thank you for your kind wishes. I actually hired an immigration lawyer to do the work fr me. I was terrified of getting something incorrect. The CIC sent back informaton because I actually sent too much. Oh well, too much is better than not enough, right?

Well, I had a big run around. I didn't receive anything from Cairo verifying the file was received. Finally I called a member of parliament to look into it for me. I have in my possession, one letter stating that the application is forwarded to Cairo and  the Member of Parliament found out that my file NEVER went to Cairo. It is being processed out of Ottawa Canada.

This spurred me to call immigration directly. The woman I spoke to confirmed the file was received even though I had no letter saying so. She confirmed the receipt date as May 09/11.

What's particularly wierd is that even though they verbally confirmed this to me on the phone, I received YESTERDAY (September 27), the confirmation letter. That's nearly five months for a LETTER to make it to me confirmin the whereabouts of our file.

I am despondent folks. I've been married for 18 months and my husband's birthday was on September 26. I haven't seen him officially for a year now. I just started a new job and have no vacation time accrued, so I am sitting here in Canada dealing with the death of both of my parents, the death of his father in the same time frame and a new job. I am falling apart.

I want to ask if anyone has any ideas on how long it will actually take still?  The woman on the phone at immigration said it takes one year from receipt of the package. When I asked her if this was the real amount of time, she responded that "We are told to say a year, if it takes a year, no one gets mad, but I've heard of it taking six to seven months....don't quote me."

Anyone?? Any real idea of an approximate time I can look forward to beginning my married life on?

Guess I should change my subject to "waitin on Ottawa"........lol.

Good luck and best wishes to all, who like me just want to be with their loved ones.

To my fellow Canadians; I researched other countries immigration laws. For instance; if I moved to the UK (I was born there), the entire immigration process for a spouse is EIGHT WEEKS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR SYSTEM??? WHY ARE WE ACCEPTING THIS???

Things need to change.  Anyone with me? Tongue

  Welcome madamadam

why don't you come on over to our Cairo thread at the link below.  We have lots of information posted about what's been going on with those waiting for Cairo.  I am also keeping a spreadsheet of our timelines.  I'll add your name to it.
