US Doctor to work in canada?

hi, looking for a litlle help?....

in a nut shell.....my fiance is waiting for a temp work visa in a BC ER hospital, and in the mean time, can she come up and visit for a lenthly period of time?..say, 1-6 months?...are there any forms to fill for extended stays while all the paper work is going though for the temp work visa?.....thanks for any help,,,,,the wheels of goverment sure run slow..we both figured doctors are wanted bad up here,,,boy, what a surprise??!!.....will have more questions at a later date!!..thanks  larry

Assuming your fiance is a U.S. citizen, she can enter Canada without a visa for a period of up to 6 months.

They will ask her some questions at the point of entry.  Be sure to tell the truth about having a fiance, a work permit in process, and the fact that her visit is only temporary.

If they believe she is moving, getting married, or planning not to leave, they'll deny her entry.

thanks thaiguy!..interesting!...yes, she is a US citizen!...ok, i understand about telling the truth, becuase thats what it is!...now, 'after she starts working here on a full time basis(hours wise), does that change anything?..can she still visit the states for a week, then come back and resume here position in the ER?.......i guess what i am asking here, is what are the dangers here in doing what she is doing?..sounds like there are alot of potential pitfalls here??.....what if we are married?..does that change anything?...hmm, seems like a big can of worms.LOL,,,,maybe time to get a lawyer!..thanks a million   larry

After she starts working, you could get married in Canada.  That's not a problem, but it makes things complicated because it will then appear to immigration that your wife intends to stay permanently with you.

Therefore, after you get married, you should immediately begin the sponsorship process.  Your wife won't be able to leave Canada while the application is in process (well, she could, but she wouldn't be able to return until the application is finalized).

If she is working at a hospital, she will require an Immigration medical, therefor she will have to get her work permit at one of the US offices.

thanks all....i guess at this point she is waiting for the "labour market opinion number from the powers that be!...another questoin if i may?....once she has the canadain work visa, does she then go to her imagration office to show them, then proceed from there?...great info...thanks  larry
