Hi

I am a permanant resident of Canada and living in Canada for the last 4 years with an Indian passport. I am getting married in April this year. My fiance is from India and has never travelled to Canada before. I will be travelling to India for about two weeks to get married. I want bring her with me to Canada at the end of the two weeks.

1. I will be filing an application for her PR sponsership from India as soon as I get the marriage cetificate and photos, but in the meantime can I also apply for a visitor visa so that she can join me immediately?

2. If the visitor visa is not accepted (because the processing of sponsorship PR is in progress), can i apply for a work permit instead?

3. If the above two are not possible, is there any other visa that I can apply for her?

Please guide kindly.

Thanks,
Deepak

1. Yes, you can apply for a visit visa immediately. However there's a significant chance it will be rejected.

2. You cannot apply for a work permit on her behalf - she will have to apply herself. To qualify for a work permit, she will first need a job offer and her Canadian employer will have to submit a labour market opinion (LMO) and have it approved.

3. Study permit comes to mind. She will have to show strong ties to India - and have sufficient funds to cover foreign tuition fees, travel and living expenses.

You'll want to get that visitor visa application in ASAP.

It may also be a good time to start YOUR citizenship application.  I understand that Canadian citizens *may* have their sponsored family members approved for PR more quickly.

Just a little heads up, the fact that the sponsor is a permanent resident or canadian citizen has nothing to do with how fast the application is processed.

Chances are very less that CIC-ND will grant a visitor visa
