My girl friend will be returning to Canada on her second visitor visa next year. We hope to obtain a six month visa. Her first visa was five weeks and she arrived and left exactly on schedule. Our intent is get married while she is here next year and apply for immigration. My question is: Will the Canadian government give her an extension that lasts until she is either approved or rejected as a resident? Or will she forced to go home before the process is complete?

You can request the extension, there are no guarantees.

I believe if you are applying for her as an inland applicant she can stay here until the decision is made...

When my wife (back then girlfriend) applied for the second visa, we told them in the application that we are planing to go to the Caribbeans and we asked for multiple entry visa. These visas if granted are usually for the length of the validity of the passport. In her case 5 years.
