I'm an american citizen going to visit my wife while our app is being processed. I'm leaving tomorrow and a bit worried about crossing the border. I'm taking the bus. I own no property, i quit my job so i could go up there. but i do have a good bit of money in the bank to support myself. I'm just worried they might not let me cross as I have no way to prove I'm coming back. anyone else been in this situation? or any advice. thank you.

Take a copy of your receipt showing you paid for your application.  Take whatever documents showing that you have an app in process... i.e. printout of sponsor approval etc.

Explain to them that you are coming up with the intent to stay during your PR application process.

They will want you to understand that if you are denied your application, that you are not able to remain in Canada.

My husband received a visit visa stapled to his passport with a 6-month expiry.

Hope that helps Smiley

no, he gave up his lease, and quit his job to move here.  He had receipts from the storage unit where he's storing the remainder of his belongings.

Just take whatever you do actually have.  If you sent your app in June, then you should have your sponsorship approval at least.  A print off from e-cas should work.

Your receipt that you paid your fees will show them that you are taking the appropriate steps to enter legally... nobody in their right mind would pay $1040 and then cheat the system.

you would think I'd have my approval being sent in june since some of the other june people already received ppr, but were still waiting. lol  glad to know your husband got through, give me some relief, even though i know every case is different.

Has your file been transferred to Buffalo?

Just need to show that the person sponsoring you was approved to sponsor you.

Also, if your spouse is unable to join you crossing the border, then you should make sure they're available by phone when you are crossing in case they need to verify the info.  I personally did not get a phone call, but was told it is a possibility.

I made it across with ease, the officer sent me to immigration since i stated i was staying over 2 months and if non residents are staying for over 2 months they need to see immigration. the lady was very nice, i showed her the receipt for paying the fees, she typed it in the computer an seen we were in the system and she gave me a stamp for 6 months. didnt ask to see a return ticket or anything. a lot easier than i thought.
