Visiting Canada while sponsor application in progress

I have heard that there is a good chance you will be denied entry if you try to visit Canada while there is a sponsorship application pending, is this true?

Yes , it is. When you apply for a VISITOR visa you must prove you do not have intentions to IMMIGRATE into Canada.

Being in the process of immigration it is a little bit difficult to demonstrate, eh?

but if you show them you are in the process of immigrating legally, then they know you will not do anything to mess that up. also show proof of your job if you have one, mortgage payments, appointments etc.Be honest without giving too much info, and dont volunteer info.
