There is no issue here, you are an American Citizen you don't need a visa to go to Canada. Just show up at the border or airport with your passport and that's all you need.

The issue at the Canadian boarder is that the visitor has to prove that he/she will return after the short visit to USA.

If you go with the normal trappings of a visitor and are only planning a short visit, you should have few issues, if any.

If you are planning to go for an extended visit to wait out your PR processing, don't arrive at the border with everything including the kitchen sink.  Have some proof of ties remaining to the US, proof of funds to support yourself (whether from yourself, your wife or jointly), and proof your PR application has been submitted (a copy of the receipt and the sponsor approval letter/email if you have that already).

Not necessarily true. If the application is already submitted they are far more lenient with this. When I first crossed the border to stay with my fiancé I was questioned about finances, ties to home, etc. much more so. Once I was married my application was submitted they stopped asking for any of that and renewed my visitor record numerous times without me needing to show proof that I would be leaving at any point in the near or distant future.

Agreed though, don't show up at the border with more than say your clothes, laptop, that sort of thing. They wouldn't be happy to see you there with a Uhaul. Hehe.  Wink
