My husband is a canadian citizen and we got married in MArch 2012. should we go for visit visa before applying family class sponsorship-spouse category.

Yes you may.. if you get visa (which you should) that will strengthen your case for immigration later on.. secondly you will have the option to apply "Inland"... i.e you can apply for spouse while living in canada but that takes longer processing time compared to outland application. but who cares... you would be in Canada living the spouse so it doesnt matter how long it takes...

You can try, but you will probably not get a TRV with a Canadian spouse. You will need to show strong ties to your homeland.
