visa validity is it possible to extend?

Hello everyone!
just curious , my husband and i got tourist visa and it's valid until may 17,
my questions are; what if we dont use the visa, is it going to affect our future plan of migrating canada?

another question is; should i go back to the embassy and explain why we didnot use the visa and apply again. did any one done this before?

1.  No it doesn't effect any other applications.  CHC doesn't care whether you used the TRV or not.
