visa office and does it matter where you are?

Hi,

I am canadian citizen and my partner finnish. we now live in London, UK. We want to move to cananda next May and in the process of filling out all the forms. our situation complicates things a little as we will be getting married in finland this July (legally) and then fly to HK in Oct to travel around south east asia, then back to hk in may before flying to Toronto.

My questions are:
1. what should our corresponding address be? we won't have an address in London when we leave in Oct and my parents are in HK, but his brother in London, is it better to have correspondong address the same as where you lived when you sent the application?

2. which visa office should it be for his application? London (UK)? we is living here legally as Finland is part of the EU but once we go travel, we won't have an address, so should the visa office be in UK or Finland (his nationality)?

3. if/when the PR is approved, do we have to travel to the visa office in UK or Finland to "pick up" the visa or is everything sent to corresponding address?

4. this is not related to the above topic but we wonder if my fiance would need to get police certificate from Canada (as he studied there as international student for 5 years) and we got this reply from immigration department of high commission canada in london: "Regarding RCMP clearance, we will do our own investigation and will contact you if necessary." Does this mean we don't need to get the police certificate from canada for now and they will contact RCMP on our behalf instead?

Just my personal opinion, but I really think you should stay in one place while the visa is processing.  Save the travelling for later.  Most of the time you wont hear anything from CIC, but when you do; you usually want and have to react fast and send them what they want.

and I'm pretty sure you will need to have his visa process at a CIC office whichever Finnish nationals use.

I would recommend calling CIC about the police records though.  Or maybe you could just call the local police station where he was studying and if that doesn't work, try to get a number for the RCMP; I'm sure they could give you a answer. 

I say, be pro-active and do what you can to get the police clearance.  Unless you hear from 5 different officials say that its not required.

Its better to be safe than sorry.   And I don't think CIC would get mad if you sent them more info for your case.


Then again, I'm sure theres an expert on this site that can prove me wrong

thanks very much for you advice. just wanted to let you know I have collected 2 reponses saying that he doesn't need a police certificate from RCMP as they will do their own check! 2 down, 3 more to go!
