Visa extension and PR application

Hi All,

How far in advance do I need to submit my PR application before the expiration date of my visa? According to the in Canada class sponsorship guide, I can send the request for extension of my visa status along with my PR application but it does not tell how far in advance I have to do it. Right now I am still waiting for my FBI certificate.
