It's not that easy to just go.  There are some complications.  His grandpa lives with him and usually when I go to visit he goes and stays with his daughter, but now she has cancer and is going through treatments.  The three of us in that tiny apartment would not be good for a lot of reasons.  A friend offered his apartment, because he might be away,  but isn't sure for another week.  I'll decide then.  I don't care what it costs at this point.  But, the only time I can go is during the summer, and my husband has two weeks holiday in August.  It will have to be then. Fingers crossed.

Go and visit. Spend together as much time as you can. Maybe he could rent apartment for your visit?

When did they started processing your application? Was it In April?
You can order Caips notes, there you'll find some useful information.
When did your husband served, what year was it? It can make a difference...

Thing is, in Caips notes you can see what's currently in process and what things are done.
For example in my case I'm in queue for an interview. I was queued in January 2011. There is due date for security checks and it says January 2012.
All those dates are not promising... it's a long time to wait...but it's kind of easier when you know certain dates... you can plan and live your life the best you can.
My wife was here for month and a half. She went back just two weeks ago. Feels like two years, not two weeks...Before that I haven't see her for 9 months...(skype is cool...but...you know...)
And now because of her work she won't be able to come and visit in next 7 months... I can't go there, so it sucks... but we shouldn't be stressed cause those things are out of our control...all we can do is wait...

With complications or not, go and visit Smiley

February...

and they've only had his military records for a month now.  So it hasn't been that long.  I don't thing CAIPS would be useful quite yet.  Maybe in a month.

We can't afford to rent a place for 2 weeks...

Sorry I meant to say when did they started in Vienna. That must be mid April since your file was transferred on 8th April.

Sounds reasonable to order Caips notes in a month. Hopefully that Canada Post strike will end by then.

arunsgirl: Vienna is fast as long as you have straight-forward application. I knew a guy who was sponsored by his wife, it takes him only 3-4 months for everything to finished in Vienna but that was 3 years ago.

cleo: Happy Anniversay! I'm so sorry to hear that. hopefully you & everybody here will be together with our loved ones. I also missed my husband's birthday, christmas, new year, my birthday for almost 2 years living apart. I understand your situation, it's really not easy especially money wise.

I received a special sign from the immigration angels today that my husband will be here with me in Canada...eventually.   I was shopping at Safeway. And in the produce department, right beside the squash was a whole head of sour cabbage, the key ingredient in sarma!   My husband said it probably didn't exist here but that "I" would surely find a way to make it for him.  Today, I told him and said, "See , you can now make your own sarma!"  We had a good laugh about that.  Come on immigration angels, can't you see we were meant to be together!

....I'm going to book that ticket this week...90% sure.

ticket booked.

Received notice today that they want more details of his military service.  Of course there are few details because he only spent a month in an airline hangar.  No combat, nothing.  And they want details that he tells me he can't remember because it was 20 years ago.  Also, in the letter they sent him , it said, "regarding you application for temporary residence visa".   What?   He's applying for permanent residence of course.  If they make these kinds of simple errors no wonder the process takes so long.  Grrrr.

Re:Cleo's sarma Smiley

When your husband is in Canada and making that sarma for you, use ground buffalo meat instead of beef! My dad does in his recipe and it is delish. It then becomes gourmet sarma-a special treat shared by two of you.

I will tell him that!  It will be Canadian sarma.  Maybe we can say that we have sarma-karma now.   Wink

No news.  It's been over a month since they received the extra info about military service and four months since they started processing his application.  Only 4 months but it feels longer.

But I'm off to Belgrade in 9 more sleeps!

I agree it feels longer. One month feels like a year... Waiting game continues...

Good news is that you can come and visit. Hopefully Sarma will be on the menu one of those days   Grin

Enjoy your stay in Belgrade.  Smiley
