I am completely new to this and am trying to come up to speed quickly.

My US gf want to understand her options for visiting me for 6th months. Is she better off applying for a > 6 month multiple entry visitor visa or should she enter under a standard 6 month visitor arrangement.

My concern is that should she just flies in from US on a 6 month visitor visa, if she wants to stay after that she will have to leave for 6 months before she can re-enter Canada.  Is this the case?

Is there a better option?

Thanks in advance.

U.S. citizens do not need visas to enter Canada. She can just show up at the border with her passport (or other acceptable document) and get visitor status that way.

If she wants to stay longer, she can a) ask for it at entry, b) apply for an extension 30 days before her stay expires (and the say is 6 months by default), or c) leave and re-enter. There is no requirement to wait 6 months before attempting to re-enter.

Note that there is no guarantee for approval of any of these options (or even the original entry), but life is a lot easier for Americans trying to enter than for anyone else.

Is she better off applying for a > 6 month multiple entry visitor visa or should she enter under a standard 6 month visitor arrangement. As an American citizen she does not need a visa to enter Canada but she must be able to convince the officer that she's just coming for a visit. Hint: Don't bring too much stuff Smiley There had been a post about a US citizen trying to enter Canada but got denied because she brought too much stuff: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/needing-information-and-advice-quickly-t31442.0.html

My concern is that should she just flies in from US on a 6 month visitor visa, if she wants to stay after that she will have to leave for 6 months before she can re-enter Canada.  Is this the case?  She can do this but there are no guarantees she'll be allowed re-entry.

Is there a better option? Apply for an extension of the visit once in Canada. If approved then she can stay longer. If not, you had more time together.

Thanks in advance.

And Karlshammar is so right!!!!!
