This forum has proven to be helpful throughout my process so I would like to offer a word of caution. If you know your fingerprints are about to expire I would advise you to spend the additional funds and have your fingerprints re-processed.
When I processed my fingerprints November 2008 it took approximately 3wks to be returned and in turn submitted to the Visa office. In May 2010 I received my request for our passports with an addendum stating my fingerprints have expired and I would have to get them redone. I couldn't believe a 3 week process was now a 12-13week process but it is. I wrote urgent, critical all over the envelope to no avail.
FBI rec my request on May, 24th (same process as I did before) August 6th recv'd ltr from FBI requesting "letter stating reason for request and contact information" (I was allow to submit the letter via fax) this extends the wait for another 4 weeks.
The visa office will not issue visas with out the updated FBI clearance. I am a little disappointed as I had anticipated being in Canada by this time and am now stuck waiting around for 3-4 extra months.
I know others may have experienced worse so I just have to be patient. BTW my previous clearance came back with "NO Record". So it isn't a case of having a record. It doesn't matter.

Return mail envelopes from the post office can be pre-paid priorty packages. You should not have a problem there. Why did you have to do state checks if you sent your prints to Clarkson Virginia, they system check should be statewide.

Thank you so much for the information and also for the prompt reply ....I have a question with regard to this the prepaid priority packages you are talking about is from the local Post Office or any specific courier companies??? and do they ask for an account number to be created with them like the FED EX is asking of me please excuse my ignorance .... I m doin the state PCC also just to be on the safer side coz if in case the CHC asks for it in the later stage then i wudnt have anything in hand ,that is the only reason ....once again thnx for d help will look into it asap but wudnt be able to over d weekend coz i m taking the IELTS dis weekend ...thnxx

Good Luck on taking the IELTS!

I am not an expert at Canadian Immigration. Please don't expect me to answer if your post title has urgent in it and it is not really urgent. Urgent is 911 or you have a definite deadline tomorrow, not that you would like to send in the application soon

From my experience, It took only 7 weeks for FBI to complete the fingerprint check, and onether week to reach in my adress by mail,so in total I got the result from FBI on 8 weeks.

cimi, when did you do your fingerprints? My first fingerprint check in November 2008 took only 4 weeks....now it is up to 12-13 weeks. To the other post even if it is first class the FBI website mandates a return envelope. You can chose what carrier you prefer...

It's at the bottom of the current request format - http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/forms/cover_letter.pdf as one of the return mail options.

These are just some thoughts based on the information available, what I've read, and my experience. I am not an expert; if you want the facts, cic.gc.ca has a wealth of information. Good luck with your application! Hope you have a wonderful day *smile*

But that sounds like you can either chose to enclose a return envelope (if you want anything but first class) or have them ship to you with first class if you don't want to enclose a return envelope. Am I right in saying that? thanks.
