My husband and I just got married (in France) and arrived in Canada two weeks ago. I am a US citizen and he is Canadian. We rented a house, moved our stuff from California, etc. We were in Canada for 5 days in May before going to europe for the summer and we explained the situation to customs at Niagra falls. I was going to apply outland for my PR under comon-law but the customs officer at Niagra Falls told me to just wait until we were married. So that is what we did. Now, I have a few questions about applying for permanent residency:

1) Do I need to apply for any sort of visitor visa extensions? What do I put on the application as my current status in Canada (visitor, PR, other?). I know you don't need a visa to come to Canada if you are a US citizen but I am figuring that doesn't apply to being here for a year while the PR application goes through.

2) Should I apply outland still and will my medical exam/police cert still work (they were done in April 2011)?

3) At what point can I apply for OHIP? Is my OHIP eligibility sooner if I apply inland or outland?

Thanks for the help! I read and read and read as much as possible but I am starting to go around in circles.  Huh

Hi astegenga,

1. As your entry to Canada is valid for 6 months period an extension is required.
2. Applying out land is faster than inland
3.For OHIP eligibility please read the link:

You'll have a great deal of experience to draw on if you post in this thread: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/thread-for-outland-buffalo-applicants-t41886.0.html

Yes I discovered that thread shortly after posting. Its great that this exists. I am pretty good at figuring paperwork out but this is quite the challenge.

Anyway my application is done and I am sending it to Missasauga today! crossed fingers.

QUICK QUESTION. After you apply out land,

How did you see each other?
Can they come and visit to Canada? Any common problems?
How long Can husband stay?

Let me know, a little bit worried! Thank you soooooooooo much in advance!
