Hi,

I am going to make the landing very soon and I wanted to take my funds to Canada. I am in India and I have an account in ICICI bank. Now, I called Scotia bank and they said they accept only Travellers' cheque or Cash. They don't take DD. I went to ICICI to get Travellers' cheque.

They said if I get traveller's cheque then they will have to cut commission from. Rather they suggested my a Card they can issue me. In this they will give me a card and an Invoice saying that I bear this card for 11,000 CAD and I can use this card in Canada to withdraw money from any ATM over there. They said that the card issuing fee is much lower than Traveller's cheque.

So, I wanted to know what you guys this about it? Should it work? Has anyone used this service? Do you think this should suffice for Proof of funds? Does any one has any other ideas?

Thanks a lot.

Not a chance, to prove "settlement funds" with a credit Card.

Hi

I have no idea whether such a card is acceptable. But by the description he had mentioned earlier it does not look like a credit card. It is a "Traveller's Cheque" card instead of the Traveller's Cheque Paper. But you would certainly be taking a big risk here, just to save a few dollars. Why jeopardize all this effort for only a few dollars!

Note: I am not an expert on Canadian Immigration. This is just an advise based on common sense

My 2 cents!

Hi buddy,

Dont worry, I have done the same. I got Axis bank Currency card for proof of fund and other amount in TC and cash. Actually ICICI do not promote TC thats why they insist Card and there is nothing wrong in this as tc is bit costly then card at the time of buying. if  you want to buy tc go to some forex agent they provide much better rate then this banks. I am in Ahmedabad so I have come across some good one whose office are there nationwide like,
transcorp forex
weizmann forex
VKC forex

try to do bargaining as they do a lot. I got  @ 43.5 from 44.00

All the best

Thanks

blueboy

make Travelers cheques
They are widely accepted and readily encashable.
