Hi leon, how are u? Pardon me. This is not related with the topic but I really need some advice. I am a temporary foreign worker married to a canadian. Right now I am pregnant and working. My problem is my work permit/ Alberta health card will expire before my due date and it cost a lot to give birth without health card. We just applied for spousal sponsorship that is why I cannot leave the country. I did not ask my employer to renew my contract because I cannot work right away anyway after I gave birth. Please help.
Thank you,
nilyam
Talk to AB health and talk to Service Canada and EI. When your work permit is about to expire, you can apply to change your status to visitor. There was a woman in exactly your situation on the forum some time ago. She was told that even changing her status to visitor, as she is being sponsored, she would keep her AB health and that she can get maternity benefits from EI as she had worked enough hours to earn that right.
