urgent pr card expired but need to return to canada in 5 days

Hi all. First of all I would like to express my deepest gratitude to whoever offering help to my situation. A big thank you!!

I am from HK. My PR Card expired  in May and I am out of the country. I needed to come back to the country for an emergency this weekend. Since there's no time for me to get a travelling visa I have only the option of returing to the country without one. The question is, would it be ok to use my HK passport to enter as visitor and then renew my pr card when I am in the country. Or should I enter using my expired PR card with the passport that is registered with the immigration?

Which approach is less likely to get myself into troubles?

I had applied for citizenship and is waiting for an exam date. Stayed in Canada long enough to applied for it with a clean record.

I left the country after I applied for citizenship and it's almost 2 years since I left. I have stayed the 2 years out of the 5 years requirement of a permanent residence for sure. I am just not sure how to get back into the country without the hassle and am afraid if I can be deported. And if this will affect my citizenship application.

Please advise how I should do this. This matter has been really making me really nervous.

To be able to board the plane, show whichever passport you have that is visa exempt to Canada.  Once you arrive in Canada, show the expired PR card and passport they have on file.

Thank you for your answe Leon.  Just to be sure. I should fill in the custom form as Canada residence right?  And, will I be challeged of how I got on the plane? So I should provide both passports for inspection? How should I explain the situation?  And, is my return ticket going to be a problem?

Are you resident in Canada or do you not live in Canada any more.  That is how you should fill out the customs form.  How you got on the plan is the airlines problem.  I very much doubt that the Canadian immigration officer will care about that.  You can provide both passports if you want to.  You should explain the situation with the truth.  I do not see why your return ticket should be a problem.  You might however want to put in an urgent request to renew your PR card while you are in Canada.

My problem is my work permit/ Alberta health card will expire before my due date and it cost a lot to give birth without health card. We just applied for spousal sponsorship that is why I cannot leave the country. I did not ask my employer to renew my contract because I cannot work right away anyway after I gave birth. Please help.

Talk to AB health and talk to Service Canada and EI.  When your work permit is about to expire, you can apply to change your status to visitor.  There was a woman in exactly your situation on the forum some time ago.  She was told that even changing her status to visitor, as she is being sponsored, she would keep her AB health and that she can get maternity benefits from EI as she had worked enough hours to earn that right.

thanks for the quick reply leon. Somebody said that Alberta health card can be extended up to 90 days when it expires. You just need to call and inform Alberta health services. My husband will contact those gencies that u mention first thing in the morning tomorrow. thank u so much...
