My online status has just changed today:
"We started processing MICHAEL's application on May 28, 2009. Medical results have been received. A decision has been made on MICHAEL's application. The office will contact MICHAEL concerning this decision."
I know other people that have applied through London and have received an email first - does that mean its bad news? My other problem is I fly to Canada for a holiday TOMORROW so need to know if its not bad news would I be able to post my passport back to the UK to get the stamp and then just cross the border again to get it activated??? If its bad news will they refuse me entry straight away???
Please please help, Michael

the only way you could tell is to wait for the mail. It has been 2 months since you applied so maybe its good news.

If you receive a letter to submit your passport it is a good sign and if you didn't receive it yet because it's on it way. Good Luck!!!

Ok just got an email through requesting my passport!!!! (Sooo happy)
It also says "When issued, your visa will be valid until 20-02-2010" - does anyone know why its not very long?
Also, what should I do? Change my flight and send my passport now OR keep my flight and send it from within canada?
Please help! Michael

Congratulations!!!!!! I'm really happy for you. Don't worry about the length of your visa because my husband received an email last week and expiry date March 13, 2010 so I guess they give you 6 months. What you mean changing your flight??? First send your passport because they will stamp your visa. Depends where you applied i don't know how long it will take but once your passport is received you can make changes with your flight.
Good luck and welcome to Canada in advance!!! Another happy ending.

Thank you! I have a flight booked for tomorrow as I had planned to go for a holiday to see my girlfriend. My options are:
1) I change that flight for in 3 weeks time and send my passport down to London to get my visa stamp.
2) I go to Canada tomorrow as a holiday, come back in say 2 weeks, then process my visa stamp and fly back to live.
3) Go tomorrow as a holiday, post my passport back to my parents who then send it to London, once they get it back they post it to me in Canada where I then cross into the US and get it 'activated'.
Really need some advice, Michael

Michael, it you don't mind me asking, when did the processing of your application begin in London and how long did it take until the status of your application changed? Before it changed, did the status read "in process?" As well, did your girlfriend receive an email too?

sadgirl: It started processing on 28 May 2009 in London and the status on the website changed today and a few hours later I (the applicant) received the email requesting my passport. Before it changed to 'decision made' it did say 'in process'.
Is there a phone number I can call to talk to someone from the UK? All I need to know is if I can go into Canada without the passport stamp as a holiday and then once I have sorted out the passport stamp via post if i can then go into the US and as I enter back into the UK finalise the visa application?
Michael

Congrats ukmike , it is a very good week begining ....hope other will hear good news as well. About the validity of your visa, they give you 1 year from the date of your medical test to land in Canada, because you can't land without having a valid medical test Good luck

So does that mean I have have to move over within that 1 year period and then I can stay for longer as I will be a PR. Or does it mean I have to leave when that 1 year has ended?
Also really need to know about the crossing the border to finalise my visa question I posted above.
Thanks, Michael

Michael, they will issue you a Visa and it will have an expiry date on it. You have to move to Canada before that expiry date. Once you arrive in Canada, you will be a permanent resident of Canada and you can stay here, legally. You don't have to go back! As for your crossing the border question, if it were me, I would choose option 1 - I change that flight for in 3 weeks time and send my passport down to London to get my visa stamp. I would choose to finalize and finish everything first. But this is only my opinion. Congratulations Michael! I really hope my husband gets his letter sometime this week. We've been waiting since January 2009. His medicals exprie in September and I'm getting worried here! I don't want this process to take another year.

Mike - congratulations.....I have just been approved through London too. Bear in mind that for the two week service (to get the visa) you have to take it in person and pick it up (or nominate someone to), two weeks later. Posting it can take longer.
I would delay and then land in 3 weeks' time. You can then come back after your holiday knowing that it is all done!
