Update from CIO: current processing time is 10 weeks from the day they start processing your application (not the day your application reached them).

Today (12 Aug 09) they were processing applications received on July 2. That means, if CIO received your application on July 2, you can expect the initial email on or after 10 Sep 09.

The agent advised me that the processing time is expected to go up still.

P.S: You can tell when they started processing your file by finding out when your DD was cashed; it is usually two or three business days before the date your DD was cashed.

Hi Samirk,
My understanding is that one should count 10 weeks from they day their DD was cashed. In my case they received my application on 24 June and cashed the DD on 24 July (exactly 4 weeks). So, I am counting 10 weeks from 24 July and expecting a response by 30 Sep 09.

So, I would say, you can expect a response from them in 14 weeks from 16 July (24 October). Of course, this is just an estimation based on my personal experience. Each case is different, so don't take my word for it.

As for method of communication by CIO, I haven't heard from them yet so I do not know. But it is my understanding that by including an email address in the application I have agreed to receive official communication from CIO via that email. So, I am expecting an email from them once they have decided to forward my file to a local visa office. Of course, if CIO decides that my application is ineligible for processing, they will return my entire application package in letter mail.
