Unintentional overstayed in NZ and now wants to apply for OPW for Canada..help..

Hi all..
I am an Indian citizen..i went to New Zealand in 2002 on a study visa..i didn't happen to do my studies properly due to personal reasons(grandmother passed away during my stay in nz) even though i was an A+ student in India..unintentionally i happened to overstay in NewZealand..my passport was stolen by my landlady..i did lodged a complaint with the local police authorities..as a result i was given a copy of the lost/stolen report by the police..i than contacted the immigration authorities in Auckland notifying them about my lost passport. They told me that my visa has expired and i need to go back.I was 19 back than and was very immature and didn't wanted to disappoint my parents.I decided to stay back as my parents had spent heaps of money on my studies.
Well i came back in Sep. 2006.Since than i have worked with MNC's in India.Feb. 2011 i got married to an open work permit holder who now resides in Canada.Just got the news my wife is 10 weeks pregnant..should i attach the medical certificate confirming her pregnancy?? will this help for me obtaining an OPW??
I now want to know that my overstaying in NZ will this have any effect on my case as i wish to apply for an open work permit for Canada to join my spouse??Her job category falls under skill category B.i don't have any criminal record in NZ.
And how do i fill an open work permit application??because it does asks the applicant if the applicant have been sent back from any country and if the applicant has stayed in country apart from the country of residence in the last 5 years for a period of over six months..what should i fill in these questions???should i be honest and mention my overstaying experience of NZ..will this affect my case??
Experts pls help..
i shall be thankfull..
