Unemployment rates for some of the major cities of Canada. The previous month's rates are in brackets.

1. St. John's, N.L. 7.2 (7.6)

2. Halifax 5.3 (5.2)

3. Montreal 7.5 (7.5)

4. Ottawa 4.5 (4.7)

5. Toronto 7.2 (7.0)

6. Oshawa, 7.8 (7.8)

7. Windsor, 10.1 (10.1)

8. Winnipeg 4.5 (4.6)

9. Calgary 3.9 (3.7)

10. Edmonton 3.6 (3.6)

11. Vancouver 4.7 (4.4)

Not surprising that rates are higher in the Ontario Rust belt and the Maritimes. But this only tells part of the story; You also have to ask yourself what type of job you are looking for and what city is the best for that type of work. If you are looking for something energy related Alberta is probably the best, but the cities with higher unemployment rates probably have opportunities for social service careers, etc.

Calgary and Edmont under 4% thats pretty good for the current situation.

Calgary will get worse. Edmonton will as well but to a lesser extent.
