My UK passport only has 2 years left on it. Would it be worth my while applying for a new one now to avoid any problems later? (thinking ahead of re-entry once a resident). Any advice would be appreciated

Hi,

Its all about the sequence!  If you are expecting to land within 2 years (and therefore have already submitted the paperwork) then I would not apply yet as any change can only increase the chance of something going wrong.  The passport and paperwork are compared several times during the landing process.  Once you are all landed and a PR card holder then on your next trip to UK visit one of the one day passport centers.  I got my passport renewed in 3 hours by paying a bit extra.

If you haven't put the paperwork in yet then certainly think about renewing your passport as you are years away from getting here
