Hi Guys,

Can two consecutive 1 year Postgraduate Diploma course get me a 3 year PGWP?

My consultant in India told me that its possible, but

- After completion of my 1st 1 year PG diploma course I shouldn't apply for PGWP instead I have to get myself admitted for the 2nd 1 year PG diploma course and after the completion of my 2nd course I've to apply for PGWP which will be for 3 years.

Please confirm.

Thanks & Regards,
Merwyn

What about two graduate certificate courses from two different colleges (done consecutively).

Hi,

You can apply ONLY IF;

1. It's a combination of;

a) 1 year Diploma + 1 year Master Degree, or
b) 1 year Degree + 1 year Post Graduate Diploma.

2. You MUST complete your 2nd course within 2 years
of having successfully
pass-out the 1st course.

This is correct. You can do 2 one year diploma simultaneously and get 3 years work permit afterwards.

3 Years/2 years/16 months not definite, but as far as I have heard yes you can do that and acquire 16+ months of PGWP.

Workpermit is for 8 months every year. If you get one year WP, so actually it is 8 months. If you get 3 years WP, it is 24 months

Not sure about it but as far as I know, you can get PGWP only once and can correspond to only ONE degree. Meaning 2 separate 1 year degrees cannot be added for 2 years of study. But if two separate programs marge to one degree, then its possible.

Once again, I am not sure about this; just letting  you know what I have heard of.

 @ RHasan - What i meant was if you complete one year education and gets one year WP, it is not 12 months it is 8 months. Similarly, with a 2 year education, you get 3 year work (i.e. 24 months not 36)

I hope this makes things clear.

To make it clear,

If you undergo 2yr Fulltime course

[ Adv Diploma
 PG course(MS,MBA,Meng
 2yr duration PG certificate course a single program not multiple programs ]

the workpermit is for 3yrs is guranteed.

but if the course duration is less than 2rs the workpermit is for the duration of study.

ie 1yr study - 1yr workpermit
    8months - 8months workpermit

Also include what enfield had told

To all those who are very sure about getting "exactly 3 years" PGWP, search in the box on the top right corner what people actually got.  Even in various brouchers of different consultants it will say "upto 3 years" and not "3 years".

 @ rhasan, I heard those same words from a guy who had finished his studies an year back and was working now.  I met him personally here 2 days back.  But yesterday I met another guy who was saying that 2 PG Certificate courses could be merged to get one 16+ months PGWP.  So even I would say its unclear to me, but I have had more people saying for it than against, especially the ones who are already studying here.

Hi,

1. I am very sure about FULL 3 year PGWP (for Master degree graduates only). At least, I have an example of my elder sibling; 15 months MBA/57 credit hours/FULL (not upto) 3 year PGWP. I am NOT sure about college level students.

2. I quote CIC;

" Revised program criteria

Students holding a one‑year graduate degree or diploma from a provincially or territorially accredited post‑secondary educational/training institution in Canada after having obtained, within the prior two years, a diploma or degree from an accredited post‑secondary educational/training institution in Canada may qualify for a three‑year work permit. This exception also applies to students who have left Canada temporarily between programs of study.

Example 1:

A student who obtained a one‑year MBA from a provincially or territorially accredited post‑secondary institution in Canada after having obtained a one‑year diploma, no more than two years before obtaining the MBA, would be allowed to cumulate both degrees and therefore would be eligible for a three‑year post‑graduation work permit.

Example 2:

A student who obtained a one‑year diploma or certificate from either a provincially or territorially accredited post‑secondary institution in Canada after having obtained a degree in Canada at the same or in a different provincially or territorially accredited post‑secondary institution within the previous two years would be allowed to cumulate both educational credentials and therefore would be eligible for a three‑year post‑graduation work permit."

In short, you can apply ONLY IF;

It's a combination of;

a) 1 year Diploma + 1 year Degree, or

b) 1 year Degree + 1 year PG Diploma/Certificate.

If you meet a) or b), you will get a FULL 3 year PGWP.

  @   Enfiled

 you told "

a) 1 year Diploma + 1 year Degree, or

b) 1 year Degree + 1 year PG Diploma/Certificate.

If you meet a) or b), you will get a FULL 3 year PGWP."

The agency says that

Adv Diploma / Diploma of 1yr Duration +  PG Certificate / 1yr Executive MBA then it is upto 3yrs PGWP

Adv Diploma / Diploma + Adv Diploma / Diploma  then PGWP upto duration of last course

PG Certificate + PG Certificate  then PGWP upto duration of last course PGWP

 i am Sad   so what is the real situation?
