TRV while pending PR application

We are in the US but we need to renew our H visas. In the meantime, we also have a pending Canada PR application. My question is, would it be better to LAND first before applying for the US visa renewal, or should we get a TRV, get our US visa, and then land later (but of course within visa validity)?? I figure that even with the pending SW app, we can still get a TRV (due to dual intent), right?

Actually, we have TRVs that will expire on Oct 19 - it's just that we can't get an appointment with the US embassy before then. Bummer.
