TRV visa wait-time at LA submitted in-person

I hold a H1-B visa and Indian passport. My parents also hold an Indian Passport and are visiting US on Sept. 21st. We need to visit Canada and therefore planned to apply for TRV at LA in-person. We are flying to LA on Sept. 28th (Wed.) and planning to submit all our applications in-person on Thursday morning. We have our flight from LA to Toronto on Oct. 2nd (Sunday) until when we plan to tour LA. We chose these dates after hearing that we could get our passports back on the same day by applying at LA in-person. I was hoping we could pick them up at least on Friday.

Does this hold true? Can we pick them up on same day or on Friday? I just read some posts that passport is not returned the same day. What is the wait time that we need to look in our case?
