Hi guys,

I'm an international student getting my study permit renewed this month as it expires at the end of this month. My TRV expires at the same time. I realize I have to apply to a US office to renew my TRV after I get my study permit extension. However, I read in a few places that the trv is not needed if I'm traveling to the US and then come back to Canada. Now, my question is, does this also apply if I travel to the US and then travel to another country (let's say Belgium) and then come back to Canada thru the States? Does this require a TRV or technically not???

I guess my question's confusing but I would appreciate any help. Primarily, I don't want to go thru the hassle of applying for a TRV and was thinking I wouldn't need it if I transited thru the States (for which I have a 10-year-long valid tourist visa). Advice?

You would require a new TRV, if he travel outside the US and St. Pierre et Miquelon whether you enter the US and then leave or not.  You try it and there is an extremely good chance you will be refused admission when you return.
