travel document aboard and PR Card issue

Hi Guys, I'm sending my PR Renewal application now, but my current PR Card is expiring on dec2010.
So let say, my PR Card is issued after my current PR Card expiration, then I have to apply for the "travel document for aboard".
Now for example, my PR Card's renewal request is accepted and the card is issued. What happens if the "proccessing times for the travel document" is longer than the "new PR Card pickup deadline"?

Should i register for the travel document once my current Pr Card has expires ?
