Hi,

Can someone please help me as I am new with this thing. Can someone explain to me how to track my application? I have a lawyer in Montreal. He has told me that he sent my application in May 2011 but I still don't have any news for it. I dont like disturbing him everytime to ask for updates as he is busy with his work too, I totally understand that. Can someone help me on this? Roll Eyes

If you applied for PR via overseas spousal sponsorship, you can track your application by using ECAS.  Enter the fees receipt number as well as the sponsor's information here:

https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/?app=ecas&lang=en

If the application has received approval for the sponsorship portion, you should be able to find it.

Ok, I will do that for sure. Do you have any kind of idea regarding how to track my application? What do I need to track it? I currently have the IMM5401 receipt only? Is that normal? Can I track my application only with that?

If you paid the receipt through the bank, then you can't track it through ECAS.  You can do one of the following.  Call the lawyer's office and ask to speak to his assistant and see if sponsorship has been approved and ask for a copy of the email/letter received from CPC Mississauga.  It will have a Kit number and Client ID for the sponsor that can be used.  Or your second option is to call the CIC call centre.

Keep in mind that this will ONLY work for overseas spousal sponsorships.  If this is an inland application, you will not be able to track it yet.

Oh, so this is why I am unable to track it. Ok, I might call my lawyer but he's on a trip and will be back around end of august. So, if I call the CIC call centre, will they give me some informations? Like what?

Thanks! you're a savior!

They will be able to tell if you if a decision has been made on the sponsorship portion of the application and when.
