So much feedback, thanks guys! I've tried to stop worrying about it as there is so much more important things to stress about in the upcoming months when we complete/send in our application. Tongue

I definitely hope the baggage claim is after I go through immigration but even if it's not I've never been asked anything about my luggage anyway so I'm hoping it will be smooth sailing as it usually is, and even if they were to search my luggage they'd probably just see a girl who packs heavy on the clothes (pretty sure that's normal) Wink

All the best !! and good luck with everything

Unless you arrive somewhere odd, baggage claim is after immigration.

What airport are you arriving at?

Vancouver, BC (YVR) is where I'll go through immigration. But my final destination in Edmonton (YEG). I've been through there before a couple times but I just can't quite remember if I got my baggage before or after.

So according to that it looks like I will pick up my baggage AFTER passing through immigration, if I read it correctly. I don't know why I never thought of looking it up, this internet thing sure is handy. Haha thank you! Smiley

Actually if she is flying then the IO will not know how much luuggage she is bringing in as the immigration happens first and then the baggage claim so I guess she should be fine with the IO.

I worked at the border at one time, this is partly true. However, it's common practice for an IO to ask how much luggage you have. Before you make it out the door, you have a declaration with you that you should have stated number of days you are staying. Once you go to leave another IO can see the amount of luggage and refer you at that point. Or you can be referred to immigration from the primary line, then you have to explain yourself around the amount of stuff you have for such a short stay like another poster said.

Well I know when I was sent to secondary, I picked up my bags first, had them searched, waited to be called in, and then went into secondary. I am assuming it would be the same principal for most airports.

On a side note, I hope you have a safe trip JessicaLynn and I am sure everything will work out just fine. Crossing the border will never not be something that can make you nervous but if you think on it, it isn't that bad as long as you're honest with your intentions then you shouldn't have a problem.

Just don't bring any furniture.

Apparently that's a sure fire red flag that you're moving.

If I were you I would not lie to the government when my husband and I got married in Canada we just told them the truth. He is from Mexico so he came to Canada to get marrried. Lying will not get you anywhere. He had a return ticket and proof that he needed to go back to Mexico after the wedding thats it. It was easy and the truth. Just sayin

I always see people getting onto aircraft with far too much "carry on" luggage,
but for some reason your post gave me a vision of passengers trying to shove a sofa into the overhead bin!!   Shocked

Haha!

Naw, they wouldn't do that.  They'd use the sofa instead of uncomfortable airline seats! Smiley

The grandfather clock goes in the overhead bin.

Haha freaking hilarious. That shocked smiley would be my face EXACTLY.
Speaking of which, I had to sit next to a guy in secondary who had LONG and thick beams of wood with him. Like what you would install on the ceiling of a house.

Seriously they couldn't just order that stuff online or I don't know, go to Rona or something? I mean I was thinking to myself "Why am I being questioned and sitting next to a guy with beams of wood?"

Wouldn't surprise me Baloo but I didn't feel comfortable sitting next to him.
I mean I can driving those across the border but bringing them on a place just stuns me. LOL.
