Hi.
I had the same circumstances as you. My application has progressed to the 'medicals' stage.
I just submitted a copy (not notorised) of my brother's PR card;and a signed note saying the relationship may be verified from 'economic category' form submitted by my brother as part of his immi.process. I believe u don't need credit card statements bla bla, as copy of PR card would do.

to prove the relationship with my brother who is in canada

(1) do i need to send only photocopy or notarized photocopy of his landing card and record of landing

(2) to prove he is currently living in canada, what i need to provide, should i provide bank statement, bill , or ?? should they be notarised or photocopy is enough

(3) do i need to send his original birth certificate or notarised copy will do

You misunderstand.  You order the certified copy from CIC, they send it to you, $30 for the whole thing.  It is certified by CIC,  They won't do other documents.

Buddy thanks very very much for sharing such crucial information. i understood what you mean. +1 for you.

i have only one doubt in my mind. i am going to send photocopy of all the following documents but not notarised copies. is that ok. i am going to send following documents to prove my brother is living in canada.

(1) his original birth certificate with english translation

(2) photocopy of his permanent resident card

(3) photocopy of proof of landing

(4) photocopy of current bank statement

(5) photocopy of recent utility bill

(6) photocopy of tax statement

(7) photocopy of tenancey agreement

(  photocopy of letter from employer


My only doubt is i will send all photocopies not notarised copies as notarisation is very expensive in canada and i dont wana do

You misunderstand.  You order the certified copy from CIC, they send it to you, $30 for the whole thing.  It is certified by CIC,  They won't do other documents.

i didnot misunderstand jes. i  know its $30 for just landing card / proof of landing

but what about other documents like bank statement,bill,tax statement,letter from employertenancy agreement, if he notarise these documents it will cost lot of money

The documents you are sending is enough. I also send the photocopies of everything. It never corssed my mind that they would question its authenticity. But you have to make sure you submit his credit card bills or some other proof that he is physcially present there. I submitted his latest pay check and credit card copies.

This is exactly what i sent to Buffalo as a proof of relationship, and proof that my relative is residing in Canada (sister, and nephews):


Photocopies of their Canadian passports all (not notarised).

Photocopies of their citizenship cards all (not notarised).

Photocopies of their landing records all (not notarized).

Notarized copies of our national ID cards issued by our country containing the same parents names, along with a certified translation.

Notarized copies of our birth certificates containing the same parents names, along with a certified translation.

Original copies of Canada revenue agency tax assessment, and refund for 2 years. (we kept the photocopies for ourselves).

Original proof of attendence for the kids from their school, along with original report cards.

Original bank statment letters received by mail for one year.

Photocopy of the lease contract of the house (not notarized).

Original copies of the following bills: Water, Hydro, Electricity, Phone, Internet, for one year.


I prefered to send the original of most of the documents rather than paying 5$ each document which is very expensive, and the documents are not that important, they would have been terminated anyway after a while.

Regarding the landing record, passport, citizenship cards, i did not get them notarized because they are already official documents issued by citizenship and immigration Canada, and the copies are to be sent to "Buffalo", which is still citizenship and immigration Canada, so i did not find any point of notarizing them except wasting my money, and it looks ridiculous to get a witness to certify an official document issued by CIC to be sent to CIC ! so i saved the money in that regard because they are able to verify it.



By the way, i got my PPR, and visa without any additional documents request regarding anything in my file since the beginning to the end.

Only thing is, Buffalo does not require photocopies to be certified.  London does.  

Completely agree that it's ridiculous to ask that CIC-issued documents be certified before submitting to CIC. Or to require applicants to spend $$$ on certification when a background check will be done anyway.

Each CIC office has different rules and it is in your best interest to do what you have been told to do by your own office. Every opinion here is based on ones own experience with his/her own CIC office and which is not necessarily your own. So you will definitely get advise which will not assist your particular cause. My own advise is to get it notarized as you are asked to do , unless of course you dont mind the delay you may incur to your case.

Good Luck and do post a follow up as to what you eventually decided to do and what the CIC outcome was.
