Machine readable passport is now required for Canada Immigration.

Once your application is approved, after paying the Right of Permanent Resident Fee and undergoing medical examination, you will then receive a notice of visa issuance requesting for copy of passport. Even if your current green colored Philippine Passport is still not expired, the Canadian Embassy will require that you provide a brown (or is that red) colored machine readable passport.

The Canadian Visa Office - Manila is now requiring that that passport(s) to be submitted for visa stamping must be machine readable passport – these are the red colored passport currently being issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

To avoid delay in processing, it is highly recommended that you renew your passport prior to submission of supporting documents to Canadian Visa Office after you receive your positive assessment from Centralized Intake Office (CIO).

Remember that when you received the notice of visa issuance, you are only given 45 days to comply. If by that time, you still don't have your machine readable passport, that may cause delay.

Hi Shibuya,

I found this in the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp
I think the green passport is still valid considering this statement.

Travel documents
Transport companies, such as airlines, must ensure you have proper, valid travel documents when you enter Canada. If you do not have the proper documents, you may be delayed or denied boarding.

On March 11, 2010, CIC amended the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to clarify the factors used to determine which travel documents can be used to apply for a visa, and to travel to or enter Canada.

Under the new Regulations, the following travel documents are considered unreliable and are not acceptable for entry into Canada:

•any passport claiming to have been issued by Somalia,
•non-machine readable passports issued by the Czech Republic,
•temporary passports issued by the Republic of South Africa, and
•provisional passports issued by Venezuela.
This list is subject to change. Check it regularly for up-to-date information.

As per the MR/RPRF letter I received, the MRP is strongly recommended for submission as it is in compliance with the requirements of the Civial Aviation Organization.

Strongly recommended, so hindi required.   Wink

In our case, we took the recommendation seriously.  After the full docs submission, we had our daughter's passport renewed kahit sa 2012 pa ito magexpire.

'Lam nyo na naman sila... remember the Language Proficiency Requirement? Sabi nila, if English is not you native language we strongly recommend that you take the IELTS...  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed  So yung mga hindi nagtake ng strong recommendation, natagalan na, nagkaroon pa ng mga dagdag na gastos na hindi naman napakinabangan.  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed
