Hello All,

I'm a Quebec resident with a full time permanent job in Quebec. My current WP is expiring in May. I have already received my CSQ and my application for PR is in progress.

Now, as per http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/quebec.asp, I am eligible to extend my work permit without requiring CAQ and LMIA. Has anyone followed this process to obtain their closed work permits? Also, is it possible to apply online? I'm trying to fill out the questionnaire but unable to get the required document checklist.

Thanks

I wasn't able to get any information on this topic so I'll either submit paper based application or talk to a lawyer.

Also, I don't know if this will affect us or not?

Holy shit. It seems very much so. I wonder whether it applies to all applications being submitted as of that date or to ALL applications - included those who have not been finalized yet. In that case, I am pretty much screwed.

Have you already submitted your work permit application? Did you send it online or paper based?

My first impression is that only those applications submitted on/after Feb 21st have to go through this procedure. But we have to wait for the official word.

No, I haven't. I am currently waiting for the outcome of my interview. They will let me know by next week.
But if so, they will certainly NOT go through all that hassle with the paperwork and certainly won't pay the fee. Usually they only hire PRs and were only willing to make an exception because I have my CSQ and am currently waiting for my PR to be finalized. They don't want any extra work, that's for sure. Hence, I might still be able to submit my application prior to the 21st but with the change from the LMO to the LMIA it was the same. They announced in the end of June (when my current employer wanted to apply for a work permit extension and I didn't have my CSQ yet) that from now on the regulations have changed and that the LMO is being replaced by the LMIA. My application was still in progress and I thought I wouldn't be affected. Well, I was wrong. They refused the application.

The fee seems to be the biggest issue. The rest of the paper work seems very minimal(submitting offer letter and company information).

Yeah, but to what extent? Are they simply requesting an internet reference like a homepage? Or do they have to elaborate and send them a million and one documents (which would comically be no different from applying for an LMIA then)? The job offer is from the Director's Guild of Canada, a union. If you have a job offer from a fishy Chinese laundry service, I would understand their concern. But if you have a job offer from a Canadian labour union? Would they really make someone like the DGC go through this?! It's like making this request to Canada Post or Microsoft. This is ridiculous.

I just called CIC to get some information about this.

Sooooo....

1. This rule does not apply to those applications submitted prior to February 21, 2015. Hence, get that application on its way ASAP.
2. Concerning the extent of the information the employer has to submit concerning their business or organization - the call agents don't have any information about that yet. Any further details will be published on February 21, 2015.

I hope that clears it up a bit! :)

The following link mentions that some of the reforms won't be applied immediately in Quebec.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/new_measures_work.asp

Lets see which ones are implemented and which ones are not.

I'll be getting my employment confirmation letter from my current employer by next week. I doubt I will have enough time to submit a paper application before 21st(including the shipping time). I'll go with online application and in the question where it asks: "Which situation best describes your work situation?", I'll answer "I'm a provincial nominee certificate holder" and then submit CSQ in that field.
I don't think I'm left with any other option if I want to submit my application before the new rules.

Thanks for your response.. i have submitted an online application and called them the agent said i have put a note on your file. If they will have any question they will contact you..

On the other hand I have another question for future. The way my PR application is progressing, i am afarid that my CSQ would expire. What should i do in that case. I know CIC will ask them to renew it but what should I do for my work. They would need a new csq too???
Thanks once again
