I am PR in Canada as of May this year. I receive a pension from the US. I have no other income. My Canadian husband works in Canada where we live together.
I plan to file my US taxes married filing seperately, showing my income only. Then give a copy of what I filed to the tax office that does my husbands tax so they can file his tax properly. I will not file Canadian tax as I have no Canadian income.

Am I doing this correctly?

Thank you.

No - you're not. You are legally obligated to file taxes declaring your worldwide income (including your US pension) since you are living in Canada. The taxes you have already paid in the US will be factored into your Canadian tax return to ensure you don't pay the same tax twice.

Thank you Scylla. In that case I think I will give everything to a professional tax filling office to be sure i do things correctly. My husband uses Liberty tax but they don't do international so I may have to go to H and R block for mine. There are not many places to chose from in this rural area.
