I tried to do an online application but when I called Dubai Police to see if that was possible, they said it wasn't as I didn't have a work permit or card, only a temp work permit. Spoke to a very reasonable gentleman(Mr Basheer) who advised sending a certified cheque(or cash....!)as that would clear in a week. The other option was to send a normal cheque and that would take 3 weeks to clear. The only Banks they deal with are the TD and I think the BMO but don't quote me on that! My request for a COGC arrived on the 28th of March according to Fedex and I've heard nothing so far. You'll need the passport number of the passport you had when you were there as well as the visa if you still have it.

Good luck!

The other bit of useful info was if you have a relative or friend who can go in on your behalf-it will be much quicker. :D

Hi guys,

I was successful in getting my certificate of good conduct/police certificate from the UAE. I followed the instructions on the CIC website. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/mid-east/united-arab-emirates.asp

1. I got my fingerprints taken in ink (not the digital version) at a police station in the town in Canada where I live.
2. I got them notarized by a notary public in the town where I live
3. I sent them to the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Ottawa:

Mail/drop-off your document, to Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, (JLAC) for authentication.
Mailing address: 125 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, ON
K 1 A 0 G 2
Attn: JLAC Section
Phone: 613 944-4000 or 1 800 267 8376
Drop-Off/Walk-in: 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario
Walk-in Hrs. Monday to Friday 10:30 AM – 12:00PM and 2:00PM- 3:00PM

4. In my letter to the Department of Foreign Affairs I included a cover letter saying that I needed them to forward them to the UAE embassy for legalization after they had authenticated them. I also included the fees for the UAE Embassy, notarized copies of my passport page and UAE visa page (my former, now expired visa) as well as a pre-paid return envelop with my address on it. More info here: http://uae-embassy.ae/Embassies/ca/Content/1181

5. They forwarded it to the UAE embassy

6. The UAE embassy legalized the fingerprints and sent them back to me in the envelop I included

7. I mailed these documents:

A set of fingerprints (certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy in the country where you currently live)
A copy of your valid passport
A copy of your former Emirates ID card
A copy of your former residence visa
Two (4x6 cm) photographs

together with a cover letter (stating that I allowed a friend of mine (named) to request my police certificate at the police station in Dubai (I had heard that this was the best way to go about it)) to a friend of mine in Dubai.

8. My friend went to the police station in Dubai, handed in the documents, paid the fees and requested my police certificate.

9. She picked it up after about 1 week and sent it back to me in Canada with Fedex

I hope this helps :)

Hi pinkyshah,

No expert here but when I spoke to the gentleman at Dubai Police HQ the important info they need is the passport number at the time you were there and any visa that you may have had. Sounds like you have both so l would say you have it covered!

Good luck!

Hi all,

So let me tell everyone my story. I just got my PCC from Dubai and that’s what I did:

If you have done a finger print before in Dubai and you have obtained a ppc before, you do not need to send a new finger print, because they already have it in their system. You need to send you passport copy and an authorization letter to a friend or family member in Dubai. After they need to go to Dubai police HQ and they have to pay 200AED and two days after your PCC is ready. (This was my case by the way)

However, if you have never obtained a pcc before, you need to do a new finger print and then get it certified by UAE embassy. After you have to send it to Dubai along with a form (given to you by the embassy) and a copy of your passport. You should send it to a friend and family member. This will take three days.

I hope I was helpful.

I applied for my Certificate of Good conduct at the end of March having followed all the guidelines set out by CIC and the UAE embassy. I also confirmed everything like address to send to and preferred payment with a conversation with a splendid gentleman called Mr. Bashir. Received my certificate yesterday(23rd April). I sent the application by registered mail and the cheque was certified so the money was immediately available to them. Dubai Police returned the certificate in the same fashion by registered mail. Date on the cert is 9th of April and it clearly states 'valid for 3 months'. I'm really impressed with the turn round time for this and hope it helps gauge the timing for a few more of you that don't have connections in the UAE 8)
