Hello everyone,

I was in Ontario from Sep 2012 to May 2017. I moved to Hamburg, Germany in May 2017 and plan to stay in Germany until May 2018 and then come back to Ontario. I had a driver's license from Jan 2013 which will expire in Jan 2018.

I read that if the driver's license expires under a year, I can renew it by visiting a Service Ontario. Also, I read from this link:
http://www.humberviewgroup.com/guide/renew-replace-drivers-license.htm

That I can get a one-time extension on my driver's license for six months if I plan to come back within that period. Has anyone tried it? Do you get a letter stating that the license has been extended? This is the link for extension:

The only reason why I am a bit bothered is because when I come back to Canada, I will need to drive as my stuff is in storage and I need to move that around and settle down. If I need to reapply for my driver's license, I would need to find someone else to drive or wait until I can. Another option is to exchange my driver's license with a German driver's license and exchange it back when I come back to Canada. But this unnecessary hassle and expense as I don't need to drive in Germany.

Thanks in advance.
