Being a Canadian citizen living abroad, I'm sponsoring my spouse for PR and it's in process. I will move to Canada next March (regardless) and we are visiting September for 10 days.

I plan to open a bank account this trip so that I can send money in shortly before my actual move next March. Is this a good idea?

My spouse also want to open a bank account, as by March next year, it will be 11 months into her PR application and there'll be a good shot that COPR will be issued. Even if not, she will enter Canada with me as a visitor while waiting for her PR approval. Is it a good idea for her to open a bank account as soon as September?

Thank you!

Opening bank accounts has nothing to do with the PR app. If you want to open accounts, go for it.

Well, it's not PR app that I'm afraid will be affected. But rather, if my spouse's PR is not approved by the time I resume residency (ie. next March) and when she accompanies me as a visitor then, it will get her into trouble (at CBSA) when she already has established a bank account in Canada (ie. an intent to live).

CBSA will have no idea she has opened a bank account. Besides, they are very lenient with those who have a PR app in process.
